Fibromyalgia

What is Fibromyalgia?

Fibromyalgia is a condition associated with widespread body pain that is believed to be caused by heightened pain sensitivity. Associated symptoms include dizziness, foggy thinking, balance disturbance, and bowel and bladder motility dysfunction. Symptoms of fibromyalgia are similar to those of cervical myelopathy caused by Chiari I malformation and cervical stenosis. This can result in the misdiagnosis of cervical myelopathy as fibromyalgia. While Dr. Heffez does not treat fibromyalgia, he can evaluate patients diagnosed with fibromyalgia to determine if they may have been misdiagnosed. Effective treatment that can often be curative may then be prescribed.
